‘The gospel according to Luke’ is a record of the life of Jesus Christ. It includes his birth, his message, his death and resurrection. The word ‘gospel’ means ‘the good news about Jesus’.
There are four gospels in the Bible, each by a different author. They often feature different events or details, which helps us form a fuller picture of the things Jesus said and did.
Luke was a doctor, who accompanied the apostle Paul on many of his journeys to share the gospel in other places. He actually wrote two books; his gospel and a sequel, called ‘The Acts of the apostles’. It’s good to read Acts straight after Luke’s gospel to find out what happens next!
